I was recently approached by a mother who noted the continued attendance of my children in class when all their classmates (no lie, all) had come down with whatever sort of fever-striking ailment that was currently being passed around their classroom, knocking them out for days.

“Easy,” I answered, “chiropractic”. She was not surprised by my answer, knowing who she was talking to. I seized the opportunity to complete my answer…

As a chiropractor I firmly believe in the body’s ability to heal. I know, given the right tools, that we are strong, resilient, and capable of achieving great health. This is especially apparent during a respiratory infection or flu strain. Even at this weakened state, we fully see what the human body is capable of. My family welcomes colds and fevers. We see them as an opportunity to train and strengthen our immune system. We know, given enough time, that the body will kill off the infection, all on its own.

Over the years, I have seen the positive effects chiropractic care can have on children with fevers or ear infections, or adults just dealing with a nagging cold. If the master control system of the human body (the Central Nervous System) is being stressed, than those systems intimately involved with it (like the immune system) will also be affected. If we support the nervous system through proper spinal function and alignment, then we will ultimately support and strengthen the immune system.

When it comes to conquering the common cold there is no silver bullet, but there are certainly things that you can do to feel better and possibly avoid it in the first place. When considering your health and what you can do to support your immune system, a visit to your chiropractor might be a great start.

Stay healthy, Friends!
